Top 5 Things To Do in Costa Rica

Hi, welcome to Adventures with Will. I visited Costa Rica back in 2022, and it is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to. Costa Rica is known for its beautiful rainforests, volcanoes, national parks, and it’s many wildlife. If you are thinking about visiting Costa Rica, I would highly recommend it. Costa Rica’s main language is spanish, but majority of places you will be fine with English. When I visited, I spent most of my time in La Fortuna area, and I had no issue communicating in English. All the tours that I did, the tour guides spoke English, so don’t expect that to be an issue if you are concerned about that.

  1. Zipline in Monteverde

If you enjoy thrilling adventures this zipline is an absolute must. It includes 10 lines with also having the longest line in all of Costa Rica which is 1mi. or 1.6km long. It also has includes a line where you go superman style. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that line, but want to do the rest, they do give you an option to do the lines prior and drop out before this superman line. This zipline also includes a hanging bridge and a tarzan swing at the end. You do not have to do the swing at the end if you don’t want to, but it’s included with the tour so why not give yourselves a little adrenaline rush, right?! I had rented my own vehicle and drove here myself, but if you don’t like driving, or don’t want to rent a vehicle, they do offer transportation to and from your hotel. This is definitely one of the best ziplines I have done to date.

2. Pedal Boarding at Arenal Lake

If you want a nice relaxing adventure, I very highly recommend pedal boarding at arenal lake. The guide will tell you about the history of this area. The guide that we had was very knowledgable. You will also get a chance to jump into the lake and go for a swim at some point. We then finished it off with some drinks and fresh fruits. And let me just tell you, eating those fresh fruits was amazing. They tasted 10x better than when I buy those same fruits here in Canada. We had pineapple and watermelon, but that may not always be the same. It is in a rainforest, so rain is always a possiblity. Unfortunately when we went, we started having a bit of thunder, so we did have to rush back a little. Luckily that wasn’t until we were on our way back anyway, so we still got the full tour. They will not cancel if it’s just raining. Transportation is also available if needed.

3. River Tubing at Hacienda Guachipelin

You can do a day tour if you want, or you can do separate tours if you don’t want to do all of them. The day tour includes ziplining, horseback riding, river tubing, and hot springs. We did not do the day tour, we started with the horseback riding and then finished with the river tubing. They had a lot of rain just before we did the river tubing so there was some bigger rapids. The guides were very good at keeping everyone safe though. If you do not have your own transportation, you can book the all day tour with transportaion included.

4. ATV Tour in Arenal

This ATV tour is perfect for anyone even if you have never driven an atv before. It starts with them giving you a safety briefing and a quick overview of how to operate the ATV. It takes you through forests, rivers, and muddy trails. We had a blast doing this tour. We also had a chance to swim in the river during the tour. It is a great way to explore Costa Rica further. The guides were also well educated and professional

5. La Fortuna Waterfall

If you are looking for something cheaper to do, La Fortuna waterfall is a great place to visit. This waterfall is only a couple minutes outside of the town of La Fortuna. You can get a tour guide if you want, but I find this it is not really necessary for this. It is easy to get to, and when you arrive you have to go to the visitor center and buy tickets to enter. We paid close to $20 USD per person. From there it is a short hike and going down 500 stairs to reach the 246ft waterfall. It takes about 10-15 minutes getting to the waterfall, but keep in mind heading back will be tougher as you now have to climb up those 500 stairs. It is definitely worth it though for the beautiful views.
